Bangladesh: Director, Research & Evaluation, BRAC International (AD# BI 18/16)

The purpose of this role is to provide strong and effective leadership to research and evaluation teams in BRAC International countries across Asia and Africa and set the agenda of BRAC International to move towards a sustainable Research Enterprise model. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead BRAC International Research and Evaluation programme by providing strategic direction and guidance to BRAC operating country research units
  • Lead resource mobilization and provide necessary budgetary allocation and take appropriate controlling measures
  • Write proposals as necessary to fund or initiate research evaluation or special projects 
  • Identify and strengthen mechanisms for establishing and maintaining functional partnerships and platforms among stakeholders
  • Develop mechanisms for high-level stakeholder ownership and policy recommendations derived from strategic analysis and foresight studies
  • Use research findings in programme design, organizational development and organizational transformation.
  • Disseminate research findings and learnings
  • Use research findings and learnings to develop evidence based advocacy for BRAC International
  • Determine innovative approaches and customise research methodology in line modern practice and technology
  • Build and strengthen the Research and Evaluation teams based across Africa and Asia
  • Manage Research and Evaluation staff and interns, providing ongoing coaching and feedback
  • Serve as part of the organization’s leadership team and contribute to the development and execution of strategic decisions.
  • Represent BRAC International in conferences, workshops and training events

Person Specifications:

  • Good publication record in peer reviewed journals

  • Knowledge and experience of using evaluation and community-based research to inform program development

  • Demonstrated expertise in successfully designing and carrying out quantitative and qualitative research and evaluation processes

  • Familiar with the best practices for establishing and strengthening research protocols and review processes

  • Knowledge on impact evaluation of social programs using experimental design (RCT)

  • Strong analytical skills, including expertise into modeling and analysis of quantitative/qualitative data using sophisticated statistical software packages (i.e. STATA, SAS, R)

  • Strong base of coordination and technical skills that can be flexibly adapted to meet the needs of many different internal and external stakeholders

  • Enterprise-oriented with the ability to prepare business plans to set up a sustainable programme

  • Demonstrated ability to manage large teams with diverse professional backgrounds, experience and personalities

  • Experience working with governing bodies, including boards of directors, advisory boards

  • Highly proficient and knowledgeable in the use of current computer software and tools

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Readiness to undertake extensive field visits across multiple countries

Educational Requirements: PhD in Social sciences and/or quantitative sciences

Experience Requirements:

  • 7 - 10 years experience in research and evaluation preferably in the non-profit sector, with 4 years in a senior position
  • Experience in more than one country preferable Employment type: Regular/Contractual

Salary: Negotiable

Job Location: Head Office, Dhaka or BRAC International Research hub in Uganda
