About the Position
Reporting to the Program Manager, Health and, once identified, the Program Manager, Agriculture & Rural Livelihoods, the Program Associate, Health & Agriculture will collaborate and coordinate closely with other Program team members, the Communications team and others at BRAC USA to mobilize resources for the BRAC family, build awareness for BRAC’s work in North America and provide strategic program support in the areas of health, nutrition, WASH, agriculture and rural livelihoods.
The Program Associate will engage in project design, implementation and evaluation for the seven countries in Africa and Asia where BRAC operates health programs, focusing on maternal/child health, HIV/TB/malaria, Ebola prevention, nutrition, clean water/sanitation and non-communicable diseases, development of BRAC’s community health worker model and engagement in health systems strengthening in partner countries.
The Agriculture and Rural Livelihoods portfolio at BRAC USA will include sustainable agricultural and livestock production, economic and food security, and improved nutrition outcomes for vulnerable rural groups, especially women, with a significant focus on poverty alleviation, nutrition-sensitive agriculture, climate-smart agriculture, sustainable water use, women’s economic empowerment, and adolescent economic empowerment in Africa.
The Program Associate may have the opportunity to travel periodically to visit ongoing projects in partner countries.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Collaborating with in-country teams to design and implement health and agriculture projects and programs in partner countries;
- Supporting management of existing and new health and agriculture projects in BRAC countries;
- Assisting preparation of applications for grants and other investment to support new and ongoing health and agriculture projects;
- Assisting monitoring and evaluation of ongoing health and agriculture projects;
- Drafting reports on health and agriculture issues and BRAC projects;
- Assisting with strategic vision of BRAC health portfolio as BRAC seeks to improve its community health worker model and engage in health systems strengthening;
- Assisting with strategic vision of BRAC agriculture portfolio as BRAC International seeks to leverage and extend successful agriculture development models in Africa and potentially in Asia;
- Engaging partner NGOs, international organizations and funders to develop and implement health and agriculture projects in BRAC countries;
- Supporting the assigned Program Managers with database management, including pipeline reports, grant stewardship, prospect researching, and updating BRAC USA's contact management system;
- Working with assigned Program Managers to reach organizational goals for communications and outreach, strategic and program services, and grant making to BRAC programs;
- Representing the organization at external meetings as requested; and
- Working as an integral part of a small team and conducting all other activities required to ensure successful daily operations and highly effective management.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- 1-3 years of professional experience in international development or related fields; and
- Bachelor's degree required, with preference given to international development, public health, health policy, development economics, or related fields; Master’s degree preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail;
- Highly skilled user of Google and Microsoft Office applications;
- Professional demeanor, and ability to interact successfully with a wide range of individuals and handle a fast-paced environment;
- Diplomatic and highly effective on an interpersonal level, in addition to cross-cultural sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding;
- Demonstrated skills at prospect and pipeline research, business correspondence, reports, proposals, and blog posts;
- Ability to travel periodically to BRAC countries as needed; and
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
